A lush coral island rises up from the Atlantic Ocean revealing an orchestra made up of marine creatures who celebrate an oncoming United Airways airplane.
The one-liner brief was simple: to create sea creatures serenading a passing United Airways airplane. Stylistically, the agency wanted something similar to our award-winning short film “The Tale Of How” but beyond that, we were given complete creative freedom. Almost everything, except the characters, were hand-drawn on paper and then composited together to create a shot of about 300 layers each. The characters were modelled in 3D and then textured and rendered in such a way that they would blend into our 2D world. Video footage of crashing waves and clouds added another detailed layer to the aesthetic. Using a team of 6 people in total, this was the first commercial we ever made and yes… that is Robert Redford’s voice at the end.
